State wide drug raids were underway in the wake of two attacks outside the Parliament Buildings, said the spokesman for the National Drug Squad that handles law enforcement operations in Thailand’s bordapronxer region.
One of the blasts happened at around 5pm local time on Saturday when a man on a motorcycle detonated his device as soldiers guarding the Parliament were guarding the site to investigate what caused the explosion, said the spokesman.
Meanwhile, a second blast took place at around 9pm on Sunday in the southern 바카라province of Chiang Rai, in which a man drove a truck at a checkpoint and lit it on fire, he said. He managed to escape, he said. No one was reported injured. The army did not return calls for comment.
The man drove the truck on to a road and set it ablaze, the spokesman said.
In July, another roadside bomb was discovered in the Chiang Mai capital, prompting the army to launch a nationwide operation to find the perpetrators.
The AFP news agency said authorities had raided a building housing the media and public administration complex in the capital, Chiang Mai, in the early hours of Saturday after detecting a suspicious vehicle at the site. No one was inside the complex at the time and there were no reports of injuries.
On Saturday, around 1,000 security officers and border security officers moved into the capital, where they patrolled roads and took part in police operations, while 300 soldiers aapronxnd 80 police officers worked along security fences near the Parliament.
Chiang Mai is in the heart of Thailand’s northern border region, a country-spanning stretch of land that has become notorious for smuggling drug drugs and weapons into Thailand.
